Do I have to be a teacher to successfully own and operate an Oxford Learning franchise?
Answer: Absolutely not. Successful franchisees have come to us with backgrounds in sales, finance, marketing, administration or management. The comprehensive training and support we provide will address hiring, training and supervising teachers.
What is the cost of opening an Oxford Learning franchise?
Answer: Typically, the total cost of opening an Oxford Learning franchise ranges from $109,600 to $243,000 depending upon your location. This amount should comfortably cover your start-up expenses and equipment needs. In addition, we suggest that you also have $25,000 to $50,000 of working capital available.
How much actual cash will I need?
Answer: The financial institutions tell us that 40% to 60% cash plus some securable assets is generally sufficient.
Will you help me obtain financing?
Answer: Yes. Oxford Learning is an SBA approved franchisor. Oxford Learning has worked closely with prospective franchisees to see that their financing needs are met through third party lenders. Oxford Learning will assist you with your business plan during training.
What is the royalty fee?
Answer: A royalty of 10% of gross sales is paid monthly.
How do I choose a location?
Answer: We help in this process by completing a detailed demographic analysis of the community. All locations will be evaluated and approved by Oxford Learning and this information will assist us in choosing one that is appropriate.
What training and support is available?
Answer: At the outset, an extensive, initial training program, covering all aspects of operations is offered at Head Office in London, Ontario, Canada. We also provide regional and on-site workshops as well as professional development days each year. Each franchisee is provided with DVDs and a full set of manuals covering all aspects of the operation. Our dynamic team of professionals is constantly available to provide support at all levels. Whether you need help with an individual student’s program, training a teacher, speaking with a parent or marketing and administration, just pick up the phone or log on to our website and e-mail us. We will cheerfully direct and support you.
Is there a Franchisee Advisory Council?
Answer: Yes. The Oxford Learning Franchisee Advisory Council is an independent body of franchisees with the full support of Head Office. Council members provide direct communications between the franchisor and the franchisees so that all suggestions and issues can be dealt with in a fair manner. Our corporate policy is to work closely with this council and implement as many of its recommendations as possible. The FAC consists of five elected franchisees who represent certain regions. It is governed by a set of by-laws and provides minutes of meetings as well as regular communications with the entire franchise field.
Is there an Ad Fund fee?
Answer: Yes. Three percent of sales is payable monthly to the Ad Fund. The Ad Fund is managed by Oxford Learning on behalf of its franchisees. All major decisions are presented to the Franchisee Advisory Council before being implemented.
Do I have to be actively involved in operating my Oxford Learning franchise?
Answer: Yes. Operating a successful Oxford Learning franchise requires your personal attention and input. It is essential that you are involved in all aspects of the business. You can expect many long hours, particularly at the beginning. You should be willing to and be capable of performing all functions, except teaching. The demands upon you can be minimized by your ability to attract, motivate and retain capable staff.
